Rainier Dragon Boat Festival — Race Schedule

The Rainier Dragon Boat Festival is just a few days away — May 19 at Thea’s Park in Tacoma! Here is the tentative race day schedule (the grid). This schedule includes races for community teams, women’s teams and mixed teams (combined women and men).

Races start at 9 a.m. with community teams.

Race day information

Thirty-eight teams (dragon boat clubs and community teams) signed up to race in the Rainier Dragon Boat Festival! Thank you! We can’t wait for race day on May 19!

Schedule: May 19 at Thea’s Park, 535 Dock St., Tacoma

  • 7:30 a.m. Registration opens
  • 8:00 a.m. Opening ceremonies: Blessing and Dotting of the Eyes of the Dragon
  • 8:30 a.m. Captains meeting
  • 9:00 a.m. Community team races begin

Dragon boat teams — please look at the tent assignments and race day information about parking, drop off/pick-up, shuttle and vendors.


Parking at Thea’s Park will be reserved for vendors and people with disabilities.

Paid Parking.  A paid parking lot is available on the other side of the Dock Street building ($10 for the day), and two paid parking lots are available by the Fish Peddler restaurant (East 15th and Dock St).

Free parking and shuttle. Free parking is available at the Tacoma Dome Transit Center (434 East 25th St.). Shuttle service will run from the transit center on East G Street (at G St. and 25th St.) to Thea’s Park, starting at 7 a.m. about every 15 minutes.

Carpooling is encouraged!

Community teams in Rainier Dragon Boat Festival

Did you know that community teams in the Tacoma area will compete in the Rainier Dragon Boat Festival? This year, 16 community teams will race in dragon boat races on May 19 at Thea’s Park! We’re currently providing dragon boat lessons so they’ll be ready to race.

Community teams include 10 teams with MultiCare Health System, 2 teams with CHI Franciscan Health, and 1 team each with Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Tacoma Public Schools, Metro Parks Tacoma, and Boeing. Thank you, all!
